Inter-Zone Air Movement Table

This facility deals with the specification of air movement between zones. It also allows the specification of air flows to and from the outside. Air flows are specified in advance of a simulation as time-varying mass flow rates.

Tas will calculate air flow rates when you use the Aperture Types facility.

The movement of air will be specified in terms of air movement into each zone. The air flow is specified in units of mass flow per unit time, kg/s.

You should ensure that all air flows are correctly accounted for, because any air flow imbalance will be reported as a "Max Pressure Exceeded" error when you attempt to simulate.

With care, air movement may be used to simulate certain systems which use air as a circulation medium, for example rock stores or certain types of solar collectors.

The inter-zone air movement (IZAM) table has the following columns:

Name

The name of the IZAM profile. This can be edited by the user.

Description

Details of the IZAM profile. This can be edited by the user.

Source Zone

When the name of a zone is given here, then the air will be coming from this zone. If "From Outside" is shown here, then the air will be entering the zone from the outside. If "To Outside" is shown here, then air will be leaving the zone and exhausted to the outside.

Zones

The zone or zones to which the IZAM profile has been applied. If the Source Zone column displays either the name of a zone, or "From Outside", then this zone will be where the air is going to. If the Source Zone column displays "To Outside", then this column will describe where the air is coming from.

Profile

This is described in the "Editing Profiles" section. This value can be edited by the user.

You can sort the table by any parameter by clicking on the associated column header. Left-clicking on the header again will reverse the order.

To create an IZAM profile, right-click anywhere on the Tree View, and then select "IZAM" from the context menu.

You can copy IZAM profiles by left-clicking on the '+' symbol by the IZAM folder, and then pointing the mouse cursor to the profile icon of the IZAM in the Tree View. Hold down the left mouse button, move the cursor to the IZAM folder, and then release the mouse button. A copy with the same name as the original will be made.

Double-clicking on an IZAM row in the table will bring up the IZAM details window, which will be described in the next topic.

You can apply an IZAM profile to one or more zones. To apply a profile to a zone, left-click on the '+' symbol by the IZAM folder to show all IZAM profiles. Left-click on the '+' symbol by the Zones folder to show all zones. Now point the mouse cursor to the IZAM profile icon in the Tree View, hold down the left mouse button, move the cursor to the zone's icon in the Tree View, and then release the mouse button.

Alternatively, left-click on the '+' by the IZAM folder to show all IZAM profiles. Left-click on the '+' by the Zones folder to show all zones. Left-click on the appropriate zone icon. This will bring up the Zones details window. Left-click on the IZAM tab. Move the cursor over the IZAM profile icon in the Tree View, hold down the left mouse button, move the cursor onto the table on the IZAM tab, and then release the mouse button.

The third method of applying an IZAM profile to a zone is to left-click on the Zone folder to show the Zones table. Left-click on the '+' by the IZAM folder to show all IZAM profiles. Move the cursor so it is over the IZAM profile icon in the Tree View, hold down the left mouse button, move the cursor to the relevant row in the Zones table, and then release the mouse button.

To apply an IZAM profile to multiple zones, you must select the zones in the Zones table by holding down the <Ctrl> button while left clicking on them. You can select a range of zones by left clicking on the first one in the range, hold down the <Shift> button, and then click on the last zone in the range. All zones within the range will be selected. Now left-click on the '+' symbol next to the IZAM folder, move the cursor to the appropriate IZAM icon, hold down the left mouse button, move the cursor to the Zones table, and then release the mouse button.

Another way of applying an IZAM profile to multiple zones will be to apply the profile to a zone group. Left click on the '+' by the IZAM folder to show all IZAM profiles. Left-click on the '+' symbol by the Zone Groups folder to show all zone groups. Move the cursor to the IZAM profile icon in the Tree View, hold down the left mouse button, move the cursor to the zone group icon in the Tree View, and then release the mouse button. This will apply the IZAM profile to all of the member zones of the selected zone group.
