Grid Setup

On the Tools menu, click Grid Setup.

Angle snap

Tick or untick to turn angle snap on and off. Snap angles will be calculated based on the grid angle.

Angle

The default snap angle is 15 degrees, but this can be changed by the user. The snap angle must be in the range 5 to 90 degrees. When you draw a wall, the software will align it according to the snap angle. If the snap angle is, say, 15 degrees then it will be possible to draw the wall at discrete 15 degree increments but not less.

In most cases you are advised to keep angle snap on but it can be turned off by clearing the "Angle snap" box.

When grid snap and angle snap are both enabled, grid snap will take priority.

Snap to grid

When grid snap is turned on, the snapping distance will be determined by the grid spacing.

The grid spacing must be greater than 0.2m but grid sizes less than 1m will not be displayed in 3D views.

When you draw a wall or add a window or external shade on the drawing area, the software will align the object to the nearest grid line, in other words it will snaps to the grid.

If "Wall centre" is selected on the Alignment toolbar and grid snap is set to "on" then the centre line of the wall will snap to the grid.

If "Wall LHS" is selected then the left-hand side of the wall will snap to the grid, where the left-hand side is determined by the direction in which the wall is drawn.

If "Wall RHS" is selected then the right-hand side of the wall snaps to the grid, where the right-hand side is determined by the direction in which the wall is drawn.

When grid snap and angle snap are both enabled, grid snap will take priority. The grid does not have to be visible on the screen for the grid snap option to function.

Grid spacing

The grid spacing determines the size of each grid square and determines the snapping distance when "grid snap" is on.

The grid spacing must be greater than 0.2m but a grid size less than 1m is not displayed in 3D views.

The default grid spacing is 1 metre.

Enter origin

Setting the grid origin allows you to select a point on the screen through which two grid lines intersect.

With the radio-button enabled, click a point on the screen and then click OK on the Grid dialog.

Enable the "Snap to endpoint" checkbox to help select more accurately a point on the drawing area.

Select wall for angle

Use this option to rotate the grid; the rotation angle is defined by the selected wall. Angles must be between 0 and 90 degrees. Angles of rotation are measured with respect to the horizontal in the anti-clockwise direction in the first and third quadrants, and in the second and fourth quadrants they are measured with respect to the vertical.

Enter point wrt origin for angle

Use the "Enter origin" option to define the grid origin; enable this radio-button before clicking a point on the workspace. Angles are measured between the point of origin and the selected point and used to determine the angular rotation for the grid. Enable the "Snap to endpoint" checkbox to help select more accurately a point on the drawing area.

Angle

Enter an angle between 0 and 90 degrees to set the angular rotation of the grid in the anti-clockwise direction. Or base the angle on the orientation of a wall or from a point of origin using the "Select wall for angle" and "Enter point" options.

Snap to endpoint

Enable this checkbox to select a point on the drawing area which coincides with the endpoint of a wall.

Draw grid using dotted lines

Tick or untick this checkbox to display the grid as a series of dotted lines. The grid is drawn using solid lines when the checkbox is deselected. If the checkbox is empty when the file is closed then the next time the 3D Modeller is opened the grid is displayed as continuous solid lines; if the checkbox is enabled when the file is closed then the next session will use dotted lines as the default setting.
